Things to do on Mountain Kilimanjaro & its surroundings

When visiting Mount Kilimanjaro, the primary reason for this safari for most travelers is to hike the Kilimanjaro Mountain. However other than this, you may also want to indulge in other activities or visit other sights and the nearby attractions. Here is a list of other things to do on a visit to Mountain Kilimanjaro.

Hike to the summit (Uhuru peak)

Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro is the main activity that attracts tourists to this destination. Mountain Kilimanjaro is the tallest peak in Africa standing at 5895m towering over Kilimanjaro National Park with a variety of flora and fauna attracting a large number of hikers for years. This is a five to nine days hike through the different hiking routes to all its seven summits such as Lemosho route and offer magnificent views over the savannah grasslands. During this hike you will spot a number of animals on your way up such as black and white colobus monkeys, baboons, elephants and birds such as malachite sunbirds.

Mount Kilimanjaro hike is carried out in groups and involves spending nights in camps. Though the time spent on the mountain depends on the hiker’s choice, it is advisable to take the longer hikes since the summiting rates are high and ensure to dress appropriately as the temperatures keep dropping with increase in altitude due to the snowcapped peak.

Hike to the Materuni waterfall

The Materuni waterfall is a 90m waterfall in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro that collects water beautifully at the bottom forming a clear little pool. The hike to this waterfall is a moderately challenging hike that takes about 2 hours of walking on flat sections as well as uphill. It’s a 3 miles hike that takes you through the tropical rainforests, past the lush farmlands and exposes you to the views of Kibo and Moshi town. The best time for this hike is during the months of July through September which are the dry months since during the wet seasons the trails are wet and slippery.

Other activities you can add to their hike is a visit to the Kikuletwa Hot springs and a coffee tour among others.

Visit the Kikuletwa Hot springs

The Kikuletwa Hot springs are one of the most beautiful places in Tanzania surrounded by fig and palm trees with winding roots. Even if it’s referred to as a hot spring, the water from Kikuletwa springs is warm and refreshing since its source is mountain Kilimanjaro which is snowcapped.

A swim in these hot springs is one of the activities one should not miss on the visit to the Kilimanjaro region. It is best to visit these hot springs after a Kilimanjaro hike as its perfect way of relaxing after the hike.

During this hike you may come across a number of wildlife such as the blue monkeys.

Visit to the Olpopongi Maasai cultural village

The Maasai are the most famous nomadic tribe in East Africa and live in the southern parts of Kenya and northern Tanzania. This tribe is renowned for its warrior nature, social organization in thatched villages, impressive jumping traditional dance, their brightly colored attires and wearing beaded jewelry.

The Olpopongi village, located on the western edge of the Kilimanjaro region is one of the Maasai villages in northern Tanzania offering amazing tours and fantastic visitors’ experience of the Maasai culture. This tour usually includes taking part in the traditional jumping dance, a guided nature walks through the Maasai village and also possibly make purchase of the local merchandise from the local people.

Kilimanjaro coffee plantation tour

This coffee plantation is located north of Moshi on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro since these areas are fertile due to the melted water from the arctic summit. These coffee farms are famous for growing 100% Arabica coffee.

This coffee tour involves walking around the coffee plantation and learning how this coffee is grown, harvested, roasted and ground. These coffee tours are done throughout the year however if you are interested in taking part in the harvesting process, the best time to visit these farms is between the months of July and September since it’s the time they are harvested. Between the months of October and November you will see the coffee bushes bloom with flowers.

After being taken through these processes, you may enjoy a cup of freshly brewed Arabica coffee. These process at times is accompanied by traditional singing and dancing by the Chagga people, a tribe that has lived along the southern and eastern slopes of mountain Kilimanjaro for centuries.

Visit to the Momela Lake

The Momela lakes are a group of seven shallow alkaline lakes located in the northeastern section of Arusha national park and are fed by water from underground. The Momela lakes inhabit a number of bird species both resident birds (water birds) such as flamingos, pelicans, Egyptian geese, great crested grebe, among others as well as various species of migratory birds. These lakes are always covered by hundreds of flamingos standing in the waters painting it pink when seen from a far.

During a visit to this lake, take part in a fantastic adventure by water on a canoe ride during which you will be able to enjoy the magnificent views over the grassland, bushes, forests and mount Meru to the west of the Momela lakes. Wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, waterbucks, and duikers among others can also be spotted.

Walk along the Ngurdoto crater rim

North of Arusha, in the far eastern corner of Arusha National Park lies the Ngurdoto crater, a 4-kilometer-wide caldera with a beautiful lush vegetation and an abundant wildlife. The Ngurdoto crater is also sometimes referred to as the little Ngorongoro crater. Unlike the renowned Ngorongoro crater, the Ngurdoto crater is a no-go area as it’s reserved for the protection of wildlife therefore visitors are only allowed to hike along the western and southern rims of the crater and view the wildlife from above. Being a shallow caldera, the view of the wildlife and other attractions on the crater floor such as swamps, lush grassland, and forest are perfect. Wildlife spotted on the crater floor include giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, elephants, leopards, rhinos, hyenas, among others.

A visit to the Ngurdoto crater rim offers one of the best day hikes and walking safaris on a visit to Mount Kilimanjaro.

Hike to the peak of mount Meru

Mount Meru is a beautiful dormant volcanic mountain located on the western edge of Arusha National Park and it’s the second tallest mountain at 4566 meters high after Mount Kilimanjaro though initially it was the tallest before the peak of the mountain blew off. Since it’s quite close to Kilimanjaro National Park, mount Meru shares similar climate and vegetation zones with Kilimanjaro characterized by dense forests, meadows, giant lobelias, giant groundsels, and then finally montane desert however it lacks the ice fields and glaciers.

The peak of mount Meru can be visited on a 4-day or even sometimes a 3-day hike to the peak therefore a great place to visit for a hiker interested in a cheaper, less challenging, and shorter day hikes though it is not a beginner’s hike.

The hike to mount Meru is an amazing adventure worth experiencing as offers tourists exceptional views of the surrounding areas including Mount Kilimanjaro located 70km east of mount Meru, and the abundant wildlife at the lower slopes of this mountain such as monkeys, warthogs, buffaloes, elephants, giraffes since its rich in wildlife and bird species.

Mountain Biking

This is the biking experience at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro carried out in the Rau Forest reserve. These biking safaris are organized by the Rau Eco and Cultural tourism, a community-based youth tourism enterprise. It will take you through a number of villages such as the Mnono and Mabogini villages where you will visit the rice farms and interact with the local rice farmers then enjoy some of their delicacies such as the local banana beer and cuisines.

During the bike rides, you will come across a few primates and water birds and view them up-close such as the black and white colobus monkeys and the blue monkeys. You will also visit the African teak tree believed to be 196 years old and a sacred place of prayer among the locals.

Advantages of sleeping under rooftop tent over ground tent

More secure

When you sleep under rooftop tent you are above the ground, so you don’t run the risk of being attacked by wild animals like baboon, elephants’ hippos or even the lions

Not heavily affected by weather (rain)

Imagine when it rains while sleeping in the ground tents, you are likely to be affected with the water flow. However, the rooftop tent keeps you above the ground enabling not to be affected by the running water.

The rooftop tents are quick and easy to setup. They are also more flexible as you can put it anywhere regardless of the nature of the ground.

Are campsites readily available in Tanzania national park

Lodges are expensive in Tanzania national parks, and they do sometimes gets fully booked especially during the peak season of June to September. However, the good news is that you can still explore Tanzania on cheap through the camping safari with various campsites situated all over the country. Every Business Needs Insurance

Managing a business involves natural risks: an employee could be injured on the job; a natural disaster could destroy the property; or a client can sue, alleging a contractual breach.

For these and other reasons, it is important to protect your property, both professional and personal. One of the best ways to do this is to make sure that you and your business are properly insured. Here are some of the reasons why you need business insurance.

Makes You Look Credible

Here’s a reason you may not have thought about: Having insurance makes your business believable. Business insurance shows your customers and potential customers that you are safe. If something is wrong with the work you do for them, you have a way to compensate.

This is the reason why home service companies carry the declaration “under license, bonded and insured” on their trucks and their signs. This creates confidence, the currency of a modern economy.

It’s the law

Most countries’ law requires companies with employees to provide special types of insurance: workers’ compensation, unemployment, and disability depending on the state where the company is located.

Lack of legal coverage can result in fines, civil or criminal penalties, exclusion from public contracts, and “cease and desist” orders, which could cost you far more than the cost of a policy. insurance.

Keep your business running

What happens to your business in the event of a natural disaster, such as an earthquake or a flood? P&C insurance covers loss of property – buildings, equipment, etc. – but what about the money you lose during your business shutdown?

This is where Business Owner Insurance (BOP) plays an essential role. This can help a business survive a serious disaster by protecting itself from loss of income.

The way it works is that the insurer pays you the income your business would have made while it was out of order (assuming it’s due to a covered loss). The balance of payments also offsets normal operating expenses (for example, rent and utilities) that you would otherwise have incurred during this period.

Some companies not only choose to provide lost income but also include protection to pay their employees, up to a maximum of 12.

You could be sued

We live in a contentious society. In the event of a lawsuit or a liability claim, without insurance, your business could collapse. An accident, a broken contract. A disgruntled employee, and it’s over. Even if you win the lawsuit, you could go bankrupt because of the cost of legal defense.

Rather than worrying about what might happen, liability insurance can give you peace of mind and allow you to focus on what really matters: running a successful business.

There are list of disasters in every country that, if they did occur, could result in legal action. Some are humorous, but all are worth considering. Check with your country’s law.

What is Tanapa in Tanzania

What is Tanapa in Tanzania

The Tanzania National Parks Authority commonly known as TANAPA is responsible for the management of Tanzania’s national parks. TANAPA was founded in 1959 with its headquarters in Arusha and manages the nation’s 22 National parks and has the mandate to conserve and manage the wildlife in Tanzania, and to enforce the related laws and regulations in this industry. It manages the biodiversity of the country, protecting and conserving the flora and fauna. The organization does not have a mandate over the game reserves such as the Selous Game Reserve which is managed by the Tanzanian Wildlife Division and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area managed by the Ngorongoro Conservation Authority.

What is Tanapa in TanzaniaIt is TANAPA’s goal to protect the wildlife and natural resources living in the park and to ensure tourists do not cause damage to the ecosystem. The organization has received various donations of vehicles and aircraft to help train rangers with modern technology and techniques.

TANAPA also pays to maintain the park facilities for tourists and conservation activities such as Roads, Gates, Boundaries, and Airstrips and currently manages 26 airstrips throughout its network of national parks. Often forest fires break out in the parks and it is under TANAPA’s mandate to put them out.

What are concession fees?

Concession/Conservation/Camping fees are all the same thing and are a charge for staying overnight within the park in addition to the entry park fee. For example, if you stay in a tented camp in Serengeti you will pay $70.80 for high season and $59 for the low season for each night in addition to the park entry fee and the actual charge to the company that owns the tented camp.

Park Fees are the entry fee to the park and they cover 24 hours from the arrival time.

Photography Fees are related to professional photographers’ film crews for use of special equipment and rights – not for the average safari tourist with a cell phone or even a nice big impressive-looking camera.

Motor vehicle entrance fee – this is a daily fee for the vehicle to be within the park – so yes would be payable on a self-drive safari.

How much does Tanzania National Park cost?

Tanzania’s national parks authority (TANAPA) introduced a new entrance and camping fee at four parks — Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Nyere, and Arusha. The good news is that most fees for Serengeti and Kilimanjaro remain unchanged.

The high season entrance fees at Arusha, Manyara, and Tarangire were raised to US$59 per adult while the low season fee remains the same (US$53.10). The overnight camping fee at those three parks is now US$70.80 and US$59 (high season/low season) per adult.

Self Drive TanzaniaFormerly called Selous Game Reserve, Nyere National Park now charges US$82.60 and US$70.80 (high season/low season) for adult entrance; US$78.80 and US$59 per adult for camping (high season/low season).

For park fees, the “High Season” runs from July to March and May to June; the “Low Season” from march to June.

For camping fees, the “High Season” runs from July to September; the “Low Season” runs from October to June.

Is the Serengeti Protected?

The Serengeti is a vast ecosystem in east-central Africa. It spans 12,000 square miles (30,000 square kilometers), according to NASA, giving rise to its name, which is derived from the Maasai language and means “endless plains.” This region of Africa is located in north Tanzania and extends to southwestern Kenya

The Serengeti encompasses Serengeti National Park and a number of protected game reserves and conservation areas maintained by the governments of Tanzania and Kenya. The region hosts the largest mammal migration in the world and is a popular destination for African safaris
