4-DAY LUXURY SAFARI: NDUTU WILDEBEEST MIGRATION & NGORONGORO CRATER
The wildebeest migration kicks off every year with a calving season. The Serengeti sees over 2 million hoofed animals, wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles moving from the south to the north. The unpredictability, large numbers of animals, and all natural obstacles hindering this event, make it a hilarious spectacle to watch.
Before the onset of this event, about half a million calves are introduced to life in the Serengeti’s southern grounds and Ndutu region in the so-called calving season. This program brings the overlooked safari experience back to life before your eyes.
Be surprised by a newly born calf being able to run after 30 minutes or an hour of birth. Hats off to nature. Wonder at the concentration of predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas as they migrate south of the Serengeti to prey on vulnerable newborns. Enjoy all these and more for two days and spend the last day in the Ngorongoro Crater.
This program is best experienced from December to March, when the migration is still in the southern grounds of the Serengeti and the Ndutu plains of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Otherwise, you’ll miss crucial wildlife moments.

Day 3: Ndutu Area & Kusini Plains
Set an early alarm or a wake-up call, catch dawn, witness the sunrise over African bush, staining them golden. The journey begins after a buffet breakfast. We drive through the Ndutu Area stopping several times to watch wildebeests giving birth. Baby wildebeests are all over the place – and predators patrol the fringes, ready to seize any opportunity. As the sun climbs, we return to the lodge for an alfresco lunch under an umbrella thorn tree.
Enjoy a short rest at the camp: swim or nap. The same afternoon, we search the Kusini Plains of the Serengeti, a more remote region with numerous kopjes. Expect to see lions and probably predator-prey dynamics as we drive. By late evening, we return to the lodge for a firelit dinner under the stars and an overnight.
Overnight: Lake Masek Luxury Tented Lodge
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Today, we’re going to take on the world’s giant unbroken caldera. Rise before sunrise, enjoy breakfast, and then we set off for the Ngorongoro Crater. You may see giraffes, zebras, and even big cats along the way. Soon we’ll be at the gate, do the customs, and start our descent into this iconic caldera. Enjoy sightings of black rhinos, lions, flamingos, elephants, wildebeests, jackals, and much more. Afterward, we open your lunch box at the hippo pool picnic site.
By mid-afternoon, we ascend the crater rim and begin our journey back to Arusha. We pass through highlands, small farms, plantations, and finally Arusha. We drop you at the lodge, reflect, and celebrate your experience.
