A journey through Tanzania southern circuit will start from Dar es salaam combining the wildlife viewing with hiking experience as you travel. The trip will take you through some of Tanzania’s less visited parks while experience some trekking along the way. You will visit place like Mikumi national park, Udzungwa mountains and Ruaha national park. This safari offers the chance to see rare wildlife species in unique ecosystems, from diverse wetlands to vast savannas. Professional guides provide insights on flora and fauna, and comfortable camping experience enhance the journey across this spectacular African landscape.
Summary itinerary:
Day 1: Pick-up at Kisaki (Lemara Eco Camp)/ Dar es salaam international airport and drive to Mikimu
day 2: Drive to Udzungwa on June 18 in the afternoon.
Day 3 and day 4: Hike June 19 and 20 (half day) in Udzungwa. Drive to Ruaha in the afternoon
Day 5 to day 6: Camp inside Ruaha until lunchtime / afternoon of June 23 in Ruaha.
Day 7: Drop off at Iringa airport and the Driver returns car.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Pick-up at Kisaki (Lemara Eco Camp)/ Dar es salaam international airport and drive to Mikimu
You will be picked up on arrival by your English-speaking guide at the airport who will briefly take you through your itinerary before transferring you to Mikumi national park to start you dream adventure. You will arrive at the park in the afternoon, have your lunch before heading for an evening game drive where you will encounter animals like elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest, and various antelopes that you will encounter during this adventure.
day 2: Morning game drive, Drive to Udzungwa.
Wake up early in the morning, enjoy the morning game drive with a chance to encounter the early grazers and some big cats feasting on their prey. This is a highly rewarding experience that you will enjoy. After the game drive, enjoy your lunch before embarking on a 60-kilometer drive to Udzungwa mountain where you will camp while preparing for the hiking experience on the following day.
Day 3 and day 4: Hike Udzungwa. Drive to Ruaha in the afternoon
You will have two days while hiking the Udzungwa mountains where you will witness be able to go for primate tracking to see different types of monkeys and the yellow baboon that call the park there home. For the bird enthusiasts, you will witness various bird species with over 300 bird species recorded in these mountains. The park is also a home to various wildlife that you will encounter during the game drive. You will also have a chance to hike to Sanje waterfalls which are some of the highest waterfalls in Tanzanian at the height of 170 meters. After this great adventure, you will continue to Ruaha national park to continue with your adventure. In the evening of the day, you will head for an evening game drive.
Day 5 to day 6: Game drive in Ruaha National Park
You will have 2-day game drive in Ruaha national park. The park is known for its remoteness, beautiful scenery and diversified wildlife that you will encounter during the game drive. It offer visitors a chance to see things like a variety of antelopes, including waterbuck, roan, and sable, as well as the largest elephant population in Tanzania. The Great Ruaha River and its confluence with the Mwagusi Sand River are a major draw for wildlife, with hippos and crocodiles thriving in these waters. The park also boasts over 570 bird species, including migratory birds during the rainy season, making it a haven for birdwatchers.
Day 7: Drop off at Iringa airport and the Driver returns car.
After this great excursion, you will transfer to Iringa airport where you will catch your local charter back to Dar es salaam to catch your next flight to your next destination.
