7-DAY WILDEBEEST MIGRATION SAFARI- YOUR TANZANIA DREAM ADVENTURE
No doubt you have heard of the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti plains. It’s one of the greatest spectacles – and of course one of the Seven Wonders of Africa. Being part of this event is a lifetime experience, no matter which event you catch.
There are many wonders to experience, including the calving season, the rutting season, and the dramatic Mara River crossings. This 7-day safari is tailored to bring the best experience of this greatest show right before your eyes. You’ll observe herds spreading over the sweeping plains of the Serengeti and eventually witness the Mara River crossings.
The safari starts in Arusha with a pickup from the airport and an overnight stay at luxurious Arusha Coffee Lodge. From there, you go to Tarangire – the home of baobabs and giant elephant herds. Then it’s off for the central part of the Serengeti, and finally northward to the Mara River. You’ll conclude the journey with a visit to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Details of your journey
Day 1: Arrival Day
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet our driver guide, ready to take you to the Arusha Coffee Lodge, which lies on the foothills of Mount Meru. Enjoy an indulgent massage at the lodge or go on a guided visit coffee plantation. If time allows, visit Lake Duluti to soak in the stillness and scenic beauty of the lake. Dinner will be served early to give enough bedtime in preparation for the next day’s adventure.
Overnight: Arusha Coffee Lodge
Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
A friendly wake-up call gets you up to do all the preps. Afterward, you enjoy a hearty breakfast, and when you’re ready, we leave for our next destination, the Tarangire National Park. We spend the next hours exploring the park’s iconic landscapes. It’s a tradition here to spot big elephant herds – say bachelor herds, families, etc. Other common animals are wildebeests, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, and lions – and there are surprises. After a relaxed game drive, you enjoy a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.
Optional Activities
- Walking safari
- Night game drive
Overnight: Tarangire Treetops
Day 3: Tarangire – Central Serengeti
Wake up early and find your breakfast on the table. Afterward, head out to the central Serengeti through the Ngorongoro Highlands and enter the park through Naabi Hills gate. We arrive at lunchtime, and afterward, we go for an afternoon game drive. The central Serengeti, especially Seronera Valley, is well-known for a high concentration of the big cats. You’ll embrace the rest of the day with scenic views of lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Enjoy a firelit bush dinner before sleep.
Overnight: Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp
Day 4: Northern Serengeti
Drive to the northern Serengeti, and en route, you might see elephants, buffalo, zebras, and impalas. The migration herds concentrate in this region, so you can expect more of this area. If lucky, you can witness a river crossing, two or more. The river is crocodile-infested, which makes it even more dangerous for wildebeests to cross, but they have no option but to cross. Spend the whole time driving slowly, and if you have a camera, you can take all the memories with you back home.
Overnight: Klein’s Camp
Day 5: Northern Serengeti – Central Serengeti
Today we spend a day spying the crossing points to see if we can spot a river crossing. Our wildlife trackers will also be in touch to let the guide know where to take you for such an interesting wild action. As we comfortably drive, watch out for hyenas, lions, cheetahs, and leopards as they patrol the fringes to look for weak prey. Finally, drive to the central Serengeti for an overnight stay.
Overnight: Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp
Day 6: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
From the central Serengeti, we drive into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where another wonder awaits. We stop at the Maasai villages for an incredible Maasai dance (Adumu dance) and more of this, including trying on Maasai outfits. After we arrive, you can relax in an infinity pool or spa or go on a game drive to view the wildlife.
Optional Activities
- Olduvai Gorge tour
Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge
Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
After an early leisurely breakfast, we descend into the Ngorongoro Crater – the world’s giant unbroken volcanic caldera. Search for rhinos, lions, leopards, and many more. The lunch will be set at a picnic site overlooking a hippo pool. After lunch, we ascend the crater rim and start the 5-hour drive to Arusha. It’s an adventure as we pass through coffee and banana farms and beautiful villages to drop you at the Arusha Coffee Lodge to stay overnight. The next day, you’ll be taken to the airport for your scheduled flight back home.
