What determine the price of car hire in Tanzania-self drive Tanzania

Different car hire company in Tanzania use different formulas to calculate the dairy car hire rate. Some company rate their car basing on the mileage you will be covering during your rental while others offer cars on a daily flat rate with unlimited mileage. At self drive Tanzania, we calculate our daily rate for the car hire on a flat rate/ unlimited mileage basis. Several factors will determine the daily rate of the car hire including but not limited to the number of days you will be hiring out the car, the type of the car you are looking for, the places you are planning to be visiting and the season when you are planning to travel to Tanzania. Let us look at these and more factors in details to enable you know how your rental fee will be calculated.

Number of days you are hiring out the car

Usually, a discount is offered to those planning to hire out the car on a long rental. The long rental at self drive Tanzania starts from 10 days and above and such clients will qualify for the discount. The bigger your rental is, the bigger your discount will be. Therefore, it is not uncommon for different clients hiring same car, visiting same places but be charged differently depending on the number of days they will be taking the car on the safari.

The type of the car you are hiring out

We have got different types of cars on offer for our clients. Some are 2-wheel drive cars like Vans, small 4-wheel drive like the RAV4, and the bigger 4-wheel drive suitable for off-road driving like the Landcruiser defender or double car bean Landcruiser. Definitely the price will vary depending on the type of the car we shall be quoting for you. Another determinant will be the age of the car you are renting out. The newer cars are usually quoted highly compared to the old model cars as they are considered more luxurious and are of high demand. However, that does not mean that our old model cars are not suitable for safari driving. Our old model cars are actually in a very good mechanical condition, and they will equally give a very good experience while driving through Tanzania wilderness.

The place you are planning to be visiting (your itinerary)

Are you planning an off-road safari like visiting different national parks like Serengeti national park or Ngorongoro conservation area during your stay in Tanzania? Expect to be charged higher prices compare to someone who is hiring out the car for the town service activities. This is so because the tear and wear for someone going for wilderness safari is much higher than that of the town service driving. Furthermore, the risk involved in case of a rescue for someone in the remoteness is much hire than someone who is within the town.

The season of your travel

If you are planning to travel during the peak season between June and September, expect the rates to higher as the demand for the cars during this time of the year is very high and the factors of demand and supply come into play. During the low season, the discount is usually offered due to the low demand of the car hire services.

One way car rental

This is when you hire a car from on destination and hoping to return in another location. We usually offer such services to our clients, but they usually come with extra fees that we call one-way rental fees. These fees are used to return the car to its original point and will depend on how far the distance between the starting point and the end point is. This will make such a service a bit more costly.

Self drive vs car hire with a driver

Some people prefer self drive car hire whereas other are opting for the car with the driver. Usually, a car hire with the driver is more expensive as it involves an extra expenditure to the driver welfare. Usually, the driver fees including his salary and welfare goes for 50 dollars extra per day and it is a standard price for self drive Tanzania clients

A car with rooftop tent vs the car without roof tent

For those planning a camping safari, they tend to rent a car with the rooftop tent. The number of tents will be determined by the number of people you are on the safari. Adding a tent on the car will increase the price of the total rental fees. The price will increase as the number of people increases as that will mean an increase in the required camping equipment’s.
