Home Tanzania park entry fees &permits 2025-2026: All you need to know
There is a lot of old and misleading information about the Tanzania park entrance fees, the permits and all the ground information that might lead you in a wrong direction and end up ruining all your safari experience.
To improve your self-drive experience through different park of Tanzania and other conservancies, we have gathered all the necessary information about the required fees during your stay in Tanzania. Read through it to have a proper budgeted arrangement of the self-drive safari in Tanzania. All the price we have calculated also include the VAT for your convenience. Therefore, you might find some figures that do slightly vary as they won’t be including the taxes.
Most of the parks in Tanzania are managed under TANAPA (Tanzania National Park Authority) except Ngorongoro conservation area and Lake Natron which are under different management. Some of the popular parks under TANAPA Management include Serengeti, Gombe stream, Ruaha, Nyerere and many more parks that are found within Tanzania.
TANAPA Does Not require you to book your permit to access these parks in advance as there is no limited number of people accepted to access these parks per day. Unlike the gorilla trekking permit in Uganda and Rwanda which we can also help you to arrange. The TANAPA permits can be paid for on arrival at the park using either Visa card or Master card (cash and debit cards are not accepted)
These are the current TANAPA conservation entry fees:
NOTE: For children below five years, there entrance is for free, while those between 5 to 15 years, the are charged between 15 to 20 dollars depending on the park they are visiting.
Your TANAPA permit is valid for 24 hours and it will expire the following day at the same time you have paid for it.
The fees for the locally registered Tanzania car will range between 10 dollars and 20 dollars depending on the size of the vehicle.
The public campsites costs 35 dollars per person per night with basic services like toilets and washrooms. Whereas the special campsites will cost 59 dollars per person per night (special campsites allow you to camp anywhere in the park with no other campers and without the basic necessities of toilet and washroom). For children below 5 years, they are not charged any fee while those between 5 and 15 years do pay 12 dollars per night per day.
Fees for the optional activities within the park
This money does not include the fees to ascend to Ngorongoro crater. The fees to ascend to the crater is 295 dollars per vehicle and must be arranged by the local tour operator who will avail you with your permit. However, if you are just pass through Ngorongoro to proceed to Serengeti, you must pay the fees to Ngorongoro while going and the same fee when getting back to Ngorongoro. The only way not to pay this fee is by using the klein gate in the northeast of Serengeti and pass through Lake natron. Then you will have to pay the lake Natron fees which are slightly lower than the one for Ngorongoro.
As self-drive Tanzania, we help you to handle your Ngorongoro permit at a fee of 20 dollars handling fees.
As earlier stated, lake Natron, is not part of TANAPA. However, it is under wildlife management area, the body established to ensure that the locals also benefit from the tourism inflows from the conserved areas.
Below are the different fees you will pay in order to access lake natron.
To explore, lake Eyasi you will have to pay 20$ per vehicle. And the permit for hunting with hudzabe or Datoga people will cost you 110$ (self drive Tanzania will help you to arrange both these activities)
Remember to get an exit stamp when heading out of the park
Leving the park without the stamp will result into the extra charges and the park authority might start chasing after you for unpaid dues. Therefore, before exiting make sure that your permit is stamped with an exit stamp to avoid any accumulated fees that you did not spend.
Booy your safari car with self drive Tanzania from our wide fleet of car for a memorable safari adventure.
