This 12-day adventure that will start from Rwanda’s volcanoes national park, the home to the magnificent mountain gorillas. The park is the home to over 20 percent of the total mountain gorilla population that is still existing all over the world. Other places where you will see mountain gorillas in their natural habitats are Virunga national park of Democratic Republic of Congo with approximately 20 percent of the total mountain gorilla population that is still existing in the world. However, the park is currently closed for tourist due to political instability that is currently taking place within the area.

Gorilla trekking in Uganda

You can also go for mountain gorilla trekking from Uganda side at Mgahinga gorillas national park which is also part of great Virunga massif with one habituated gorilla family (Nyakigezi) which is open for tourist. Another park in Uganda where you can find gorillas is Bwindi national park with over 50 percent of the total mountain gorilla population found at this park. This park is the only place which is not part of great Virunga mountains where gorillas are found.

Wildlife in Serengeti

After gorilla trekking, you will transfer to Serengeti national park for the wildlife viewing. The renowned Serengeti national park found in Tanzania northern circuit is famous for the great wildebeest and zebra migration which is classified as the greatest animal migration all over the world. Beside the wildebeest, the park is also a home to the big cats and all other big five of Africa, making is a must visit place for all wildlife lovers. The park is also characterized with a unique landscape and various bird species that dots the park throughout the year.

Beach life at Zanzibar

After the three days in Serengeti, you will head to Zanzibar for the soft beach life and relaxation. We have allocated four days to Zanzibar beach life to allow you enjoy the view and waters of the Indian ocean while in Zanzibar.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: arrival at Kigali airport, transfer to volcanoes national park

On your arrival at Kigali airport, your English guide, smartly dressed in company uniform will welcome you and briefly take you through your itinerary. Depending on your time of arrival, you might have a brief stay tour where you will visit the genocide memorial centre to pay your respect to those who died in 1994 genocide tragedy. You can also visit the kirimiroko market to get a brief overview of how Rwandese goes about their daily life. After the city tour, you will transfer to volcanoes national park for your overnight stay and dinner.

Day 2: gorilla trekking

Very early in the morning, you will have your breakfast and carry your parked lunch to the park headquarter. At the park headquarter, you will be welcomed by the park rangers who will brief you about gorilla trekking activity. After the briefing, you will be divided into a group of 8 people and start the search for the gorilla in the wild. The search will take between one and 6 hours to find gorillas and once found, you will be assigned one hour to spend with gorillas while taking photos and interacting with these great apes in the wild.

Day 3: golden monkey trekking.

After the morning breakfast, you will again head towards the park headquarter for another briefing. This time about the golden monkey. These rare primates can only be found with the hills of the Virunga Mountain range all over the world. The good thing is that golden monkeys’ lives at a lower altitude when compared to the mountain gorillas. Therefore, encountering golden monkey won’t be as physically demanding as trekking gorillas. Once done with the trek, you will transfer back to your lodge for relaxation. In evening, you can opt to go for an optional ibyiwacu cultural visit all spend the evening at the lodge while enjoying the surrounding view around the lodge.

Day 4: transfer to Serengeti national park

On this day after your breakfast, you will start your safari to Serengeti national park in Tanzania. The distance from Kigali to Serengeti is approximately 650 kilometres and it is a full day drive from Kigali to the park on the road trip. To reach Tanzania, you will have to go through the Rusumo border that join the two countries. The drive will take the whole day and arrive to Kilimanjaro late in the evening for a dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5 to day 7: exploring Serengeti national park

We have allocated three days for this famous park offering you a chance to follow the migration wildebeest through the park. If you are lucky and timed your travel well, you will be able to even witness the river crossing of the wildebeest. This is the climax of the migration as wildebeest will be crossing the crocodile infected mara river which are ready to feast on the wildebeest as they are crossing the river. The park is also famous for its high concentration of big cats like lions and leopard and other antelopes and various bird species. All of that will be witnessed during your three days stay within the park.

Day 8: transfer to Zanzibar

After exploring Serengeti, we shall then transfer to Zanzibar for a beach life. Having spent 7 days in just hard safari activities, we shall have time to freshen up and enjoy the water of Zanzibar. The drive to Zanzibar is another full day drive to the beaches.

Day 9 to day 12: beach life in Zanzibar

No hard activity, we shall be enjoying the swimming in the ocean waters of Tanzania. You can also opt to go to the visit o to the stone town where you will enjoy the history of these historic stones with the help of the local guide.
