After exploring Masai Mara, drop off your rental car in Kenya, and consider taking a bus from Nairobi to Arusha. This is the cheapest way to transfer from Masai Mara national reserve to Serengeti National Park and vice versa. These buses move from Nairobi across the Namanga border to Arusha on a daily basis and once in Tanzania, one can rent a Tanzania plated safari vehicle for exploring Tanzania.
Vehicle swap at the border
If one prefers to enjoy a fully self-drive safari in both Masai Mara and Serengeti, they can rent a Kenyan plated safari vehicle to visit Kenyan national parks and as they cross the border to the Serengeti, they hire another Tanzania plated safari vehicle to access Tanzania national parks Serengeti inclusive.

While Tanzanian plated safari vehicles are not allowed into Kenyan national parks and vice versa, Uganda plated safari vehicles are not exempted from entering national parks in either countries.
