A Kenya-Tanzania combined safari is a challenging one due to the limitation of the car use of one country to another country. Do note that you can’t use a car registered in Kenya in Tanzania national park and vice versa. Keeping that in mind, we have got different suggestions to enable you have a safari to both these nations at ago. Some of the viable option we have includes offering you a car from other countries other than Kenya or Tanzania for the safari. We can offer a Ugandan or Rwandese registered car for this trip. Kindly note that a car from Uganda or Rwanda can be used in both Tanzania national parks and Kenya national parks, making it a viable option for those thinking of combining Tanzania Rwanda and Kenya. However, some parks like Ngorongoro conservational reserve will charge extra fees for the foreign registered cars which in end will increase your total costs.

Alternatively, we shall do a car swap at either Namanga border, Loitoktok border or Isebania border. However, you have to note that this car swapping will come with an extra cost for returning the car to its original location. Though this cost can be compensated by an assurance that you will be paying low parking fees for the car while in different parks as the car will be locally registered.

Combining Masai Mara national reserve and Serengeti

The two most iconic national park on African continent are Masai Mara and Serengeti nation park located next each with one of the best ecosystems in the world. Are you wondering whether crossing from one park to another is a straightforward event, the answer is now. You can’t directly cross from either of these parks to another as they are separated by the international borders. The easiest way to cross from one park to another is through isibania border. However, you will still need approximately 2 days of driving to access both parks. Other common border that people usually use is the Namanga or loitoktok border. All these three borders will give you access to both parks.

Though, as earlier mentioned, you will either need to swap the car at the border or use a car with a Ugandan umber plate for you to be able to cross the border.

The final option will be to use a public shuttle. Our guide driver will drive you back to Nairobi or you will drive the car back to Nairobi and the take a public shuttle to arusha to catch up with your Tanzania safari. This is the cheapest of transferring from Kenya to Tanzania that will offer you a chance to visit both Serengeti and Masai Mara. Some of the company that provide this service include  Riverside Shuttle and Impala Shuttle.

What about a road trip around Lake Victoria?

Same border crossing will apply as this trip will take you through 3 different countries. Among the three, Uganda is neutral with a relatively less restriction about the car access from either Kenya or Tanzania. Ugandan registered car can be used in both Kenya and Tanzania at almost the same cost as locals except for Ngorongoro conservation area that will treat the car as a foreign car. For those interested to explore Lake Victoria be prepared for the same hinderance.

Expert guideline about combining Kenya and Tanzania?

If you are planning a trip for a period below three weeks (21 days), I would recommend that you concentrate on one country. Each one of Tanzania and Kenya has got a lot to offer you with a lot of conservation area beside Masai Mara and Serengeti. Therefore, 21 days or fewer will just be enough to take you through either of the country with know need to rush and without wasting a lot of time while driving. Surely you will not be bored within these days, and you wont even explore any of the two to the fullest.

For those planning to have a longer stay in Tanzania or Kenya, then combining the two countries will be a very good. You will also be able to witness the magnificent wildebeest migration that takes place between both these countries without breaking a sweat as you will have enough time to relax and carrying out your activities regardless of whether with a guide or without one.
