Home How to reach Serengeti from Nairobi Kenya: Must knows
It is a common tendency for travelers to combine Serengeti national park and Masai Mara national reserve of both Kenya and Tanzania. This is common tendency more so during the river crossing of the wildebeest and other herbivores. You can also opt to combine Amboseli national park of Kenya with other parks of Tanzania. However, the challenge comes on how to connect to Serengeti national park from Nairobi to have a great adventure through these two neighboring countries.
Before going into much details about the travel plan, you need to note that you can note go for a safari in Tanzania national park including Serengeti while using a car with the Kenya number plate, and the reverse is true. However, that does not mean that you can drive the car with the Kenya number plate on Tanzania roads. You can properly drive on the roads of Tanzania with the Kenyan car. The cars are only prohibited from entering the national parks.
This brings us back to our point on how to transfer from Nairobi to Serengeti national park, the park that borders Kenya and Tanzania and the home to the famous wildebeest migration through Serengeti and Masai Mara plus the nearby places
For a road trip transfer from Nairobi to Serengeti, you will be exploited with options that are available. There are 5 entry points (Border points) that you can use to enter Tanzania from Nairobi. However, we are going to look at the three most realistic one that will lead you to the park. For the car, you can choose to use the one with the Ugandan number plate. The good news is that we can arrange for you one with the same or opt to switch the car at the border and get one with the Tanzania number plate. However, for the second option, you will need to pay some extra fees for the one-way rental fee to take the car back and bringing the car to you.
Having said that, let us look to all the three possible options available for you to visit this famous park from Nairobi.
This route will offer you a chance to have a stop over at Amboseli national park, the park offers you the clear view of Mountain Kilimanjaro on a good day and is the home to big herds of elephants and different bird species including both lesser and larger flamingos. The drive will take approximately 12 hours when you put into account the time spent while crossing the border post. His drive is a scenic drive and will bring you close to nature in both Kenya and Tanzania.
Another alternative route to Serengeti national park is when you pass through the Loitokitok border. The driving distance is almost the same as when you go through the Namanga border. For those planning to visit Amboseli national park and via Moshi city. This drive is a scenic drive giving you a different feel of tropical environment different from the semi arid deserts that you will be driving through when you use the Namanga border. This drive will take about 12 hours to reach Serengeti and it will be the one to remember. You will access the park through Nebbi gate which is the main gate of Serengeti
The third route that we shall re commend to use while transferring from Nairobi to Serengeti is Isebania border. This border is the perfect one to use for those planning to combine masai mara and Serengeti national park. The border is the closest to both parks and will allow to explore both parks more so if you are interested in witnessing the great migration of the wildebeest from Serengeti national park and Masai Mara national park of both Kenya and Rwanda. The drive through isbenia border is 12 hours drive. The good news is that this border is one point border, meaning that you will exit Kenya and enter Tanzania at one go, saving some time while going through the crossing process.
Having known all the available option to visit Serengeti from Nairobi, now you can plan your lifetime adventure to the one of Africa most dominant national park with the chance to witness the great animal migration all over the world.
