One of the common things that visitor currently do is combining gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda’s Volcanoes national park with the visit to the Africa’s renowned Serengeti national park of Tanzania. However, the common question for the people who wish to combine these two prime safari destinations in Africa for the primate and wildlife enthusiasts is on how easily they can transfer from Kigali city which is the capital city of Rwanda to Serengeti national park of Tanzania.

The transfer from Kigali to Serengeti can be done either by road or by air. Even though air transfer is more convenient and time saving but it is more expensive compared to the road transfer which is pocket friendly. Another beauty with the road trip is the fact that you will enjoy the scenic view of the beautiful landscape and a chance to have a different stop over along the way.

Here are the various alternatives on how you will be able to access Serengeti from Kigali of Rwanda.

You can access Serengeti national park from Kigali by road through Rusomo one point border. this road transfer will include boarding a ferry. Generally, the total estimated driving time including the border crossing protocol and the time spent on ferry will be 20 hours. Your drive will start from Kigali city and follow KN 3 Rd to the Rusomo border.

After the border crossing process, proceed to NR4, B3 and B8 to B163 in Busisi, Tanzania. This drive will be continued to the ferry. The ferry will carry your car and offer you a restaurant and the comfortable room where you will rest from until when you will reach the final destination. After leaving the ferry, you will continue with the drive until when you reach the ndebaka gate where you will check in and reach the park for a greater experience.

By air

The easier alternative to transfer to Serengeti national park is by air where you can book a flight to Kilimanjaro international airport. From there, you can be transferred to Serengeti national park by 4×4 Landcruiser. The drive to Serengeti is approximately 8-hour drive and it will be a scenic drive throughout to the park. You will also have a chance to see the Ngorongoro crater from the distance.

Alternatively, you can book a domestic charter plane from Kigali direct to Seronera airstrip. This will save the hassle of having to be driven for another 8 hours to the park. Another viable option is to book a domestic charter plane from Kilimanjaro again to Seronera airstrip. This flight will take approximately one hour, and you will be transferred to your lodge by the lodge shuttles.
