Home The list of Camping gears on a Tanzania self drive safari
Camping is an amazing way of enjoying a safari in the wild together with family, friends or even just as a solo traveler. During camping, a tent is pitched in a national park or one of the gazette private camping grounds where a traveler spends the night or a couple of nights.
There is number of public campsites managed by Tanzania national park authority TANAPA in each and every national park of Tanzania and they are available at an affordable price from as lo as 35 dollars or less depending on the national park you are visiting
However, staying in the national park of Tanzania will come with an extra fee known as concession fees. These fees vary from one park to another, and the highest is 83 dollars that is charged by the authority of Serengeti national park. The park is a prime tour destination in Tanzania and is famous for the wildebeest migration that takes place throughout the year. The migration also extends to the Kenya’s Masai national park.
When packing for a camping safari in Tanzania, here are a list of essentials one shouldn’t forget for a wonderful and comfortable camping experience.
Since during camping, a traveler must carry everything they will need personally, there is a long list of requirements they need to carry. These range from shelter, beddings, cooking equipment, clothing and personal stuff. Most tour operators however offer these camping gears for rent for a certain period at a friendly cost ranging between 15-25 USD per day cumulative to the number of days your camping safari will last.
This can be a roof tent or a ground tent basing on one’s choice and preference. Travelers are encouraged to opt for the rooftop tent as the are assumed to be more secure and can be used any where independent of the weather conditions.
In case a camper opts for a ground tent, then the ground cloth will come in handy as it helps to prevent moisture from reaching the traveler in the night.
These are used as backup stakes in case one of the main stakes get broken or they can be used to provide double support to the tent. These are use as the supporting sticks to the camps and sometimes they can get broken
This tent at the entrance prevents carrying dirt, sand and debris from outside the tent into the tent hence maintaining it clean.
Sleeping bags, mattress and Bed sheets as well as blankets. The sleeping that tour companies usually offer tend to be less comfortable. Therefore, be advised to carry your own sleeping bag for your comfort.
Cooler/Portable fridge, portable gas cylinder, matches/lighter, plates, cups, knives, bowls, silver ware, frying pans, pots, frying pan lids, Cooking equipment like wooden spoons, serving spoon, spatula, tongs, bottle and can openers, among others, Folding table, Scrub and utensil soap and camping chairs.
Pants/Jeans, Shorts, T-shirts/Shirts, Socks, Hat, Jacket, Sleep wear, under wear, Slippers and towels. These ones won’t be provided to you by the tour operator, make sure that you carry enough for your safari
Toothbrush, toothpaste, Deodorant, Comb/brush, Feminine products and toilet paper. Also, these you will need to carry them while coming on a Tanzania safari.
Except those listed above, other things one may require taking on their camping safari include Personal medication, First Aid kit, sunscreen, Torches/lamps, Bug repellants, camera, Backpack, Sunglasses, Binoculars, cell phone charger, money, passport, hand wipes, fire extinguisher, among others.
